“My inspiration draws on the experience of city living, and how people in cities like New York can create amazing living environments in small spaces and creatively configure their spaces to fit the needs of their life in a beautiful and stylish way.”
WEST VILLAGE
As part of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House’s 50th Anniversary, Olivia Williams Studio reimagined a fifth-floor bedroom and terrace into a refined studio apartment — an intimate retreat that balances beauty and purpose.
Drawing inspiration from 19th-century Japonisme, the design began with a hand-embroidered silk tapestry discovered during the concept phase, which informed both the palette and the poetic direction of the space.
An exercise in finding harmony of elegance and function within a compact footprint. High-gloss ceilings and floors amplify light, while bespoke millwork, custom metalwork, and brass detailing throughout introduce a sense of atmosphere, quiet luxury and craftsmanship.
Realized in collaboration with long-time partners Di Salvo Contracting, the transformation was designed and executed in under 8 weeks — a testament to the shared precision, trust, and artistry that define the studio’s approach.
“The custom built in bed that can be opened up or closed off to create a room within the room, which speaks to the main inspiration for the space.”
